Stages of Analysis

The most critical cross-section of the object under consideration is through the wall/floor connection at the girder. This section shall be modelled and evaluated first in the two-dimensional mode of the program. The results obtained here would be valid for the region of the thermal bridge in which heat flow can be expected to occur strictly parallel to the section plane, i.e. at least approximately 1 m from the corner. Instructions for this application are provided in the next chapter to this tutorial, Two-dimensional Analysis.

In order to obtain a picture of the temperature distribution in the apparent thermal bridge at the outer corner of the construction, a three-dimensional model of the situation must be generated for evaluation. The procedures of this stage are treated in the chapter on Three-dimensional Analysis.
To facilitate input in three-dimensional mode, the previously generated two-dimensional model can serve as the first layer (component group) and reference basis for further component group input. The transformation of an object from two to three dimensions by means of the input branch of the program is outlined in the section on Generating the Model - Input / Transforming an Existing 2-Dimensional Model.
